DISCOVERY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES THE 2019 TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION PROGRAM PARTNERS

Vancouver, British Columbia, March 15, 2019: The Discovery Foundation, committed to the development and sustainability of the science and technology sector in BC, today announced the winners of their annual competition for programs. $300,000 will be awarded to 10 agents for 2019 our programs.

“We had many innovative and creative programs proposed for our 2019,” says Dr. David Harper, Discovery Foundation CEO. “We continue to prioritize programming that fosters diversity and inclusiveness in the BC Tech sector and the response this year was overwhelming and impressive. I am confident that the agents we were able to fund will play a significant role in growing the tech sector and forwarding BC’s competitive advantage.”

Our Technology Education Program provides $50,000 each for four successful agents in an annual competitive process. We also fund several ad hoc programs throughout the year. Please see our website, http://www.discoveryfoundation.ca for more details on the programs.

Major Programs ($50,000) have a significant impact of the BC tech sector by providing science and technology education to BC youth, mentorship to new and growing companies, and/or help to improve inclusiveness and diversity in the BC tech sector.

Junior Achievement BC: Discovery Foundation’s Discover Your Pitch Program ($15,000)

Vancouver Economic Commission: Discovery Foundation Capital Mentorship Program ($20,000)

Women in Communications and Technology, BC: Discovery Foundation’s Speed Mentoring Program ($10,000)

Kootenay Association of Science and Technology: Discovery Foundation Tech Time Program

Since 2010, the Discovery Foundation has provided more than $3-million to foster science and technology in BC.  Since 2018, the foundation has also funded research in the greentech/cleantech sector and supported investigations of how to best promote diversity and inclusiveness in the BC tech sector. We also award Discovery Foundation Scholarships to provide financial aid to students to complete their technology, business, and entrepreneurship programs and contribute to employment and economic development throughout BC.

A registered charity, the Discovery Foundation has been an enabler of the science and technology sector in BC since its formation in 1979. Its principal activity is the delivery of the Technology Education Program via agents that provide education and guidance to entrepreneurs in BC. The foundation also provides funds for research and scholarship.
